This Biscuit was created by a bakery in London named PEEK FREANS in 1874 , ( This one goes way long ) for the marriage of the Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia to the Duke of Edinburgh. Although its popular throughout Europe but particularly in Spain it became a symbol for the country's economic recovery after the Civil war. The bakeries there produces mass quantities to consume a surplus of wheat.

There are some other methods of consuming the Marie biscuit. One is to make a sandwich out of it, in between two using butter , marmite or condensed milk , sometimes covering it with golden syrup. Another way is to use it into custards or jelly.
Since the Marie's being light and rarely has any ill effect on consuming , it is often fed to childrens ( basically infants ) and the old aged people after softening into milk or some other liquid.
